Machestro is the ruler of the Machina and Jack's greatest enemy. He is the driving force behind King Renard's power and is also responsible for a great amount of Terrana's strife- but not too many people are aware of this. Machestro's strength lies in the fact that the greater populace believes he is nothing more than the monster of children's fairytales; being known only as a legend gives him both anonymity and the ability to plot and scheme without do-gooders getting in his way.
It also raises questions as to Jack's integrity- future kings shouldn't be obsessing over imaginary foes, after all. Though Jack and his crew have faced off against Machestro many times, they have to keep their scuffles somewhat quiet if they want to retain the respect of Terrana's people. This situation can be frustrating for Jack but, because Renard is usally used as the figurehead for Machestro's campaigns, most acts of war can be pinned on the King.
Machestro's drive as a villain seems to be rooted in plunging Terrana into endless darkness- and not just in the figurative sense. Machestro needs Xyber 9 in order to trigger the Eye of Darkness, a machine that will blanket the world in black and allow the Machina- completely nocturnal beings- to rule the planet. However, Machestro hides a secret from his soldiers- the disease that keeps them underground during the day can be cured by a painful dose of sunlight. If the Machina were to find this out, Machestro's ranks would quickly diminish; for this reason, he keeps his soldiers dependent on him by promising a new world where the sun won't exist. One must wonder, though, why Machestro hasn't cured himself of his photosensitivity- could he, perhaps, be even more different from the Machina than he lets on?
Aside from the tremendous strength he wields through both his own soldiers and through Renard's army, Machestro has a great deal of personal power. He seems capable of handling himself in hand-to-hand combat but who wants to do that when you can blast your foes with green eruptions of energy? He is also quite intelligent and spends a good deal of time playing strategy games with Jack's crew as they move across the desert. Machestro is, without a doubt, Terrana's greatest threat- when he finally makes his public debut, they won't know what hit 'em.
